PAGE Regional news briefs Drug case goes to court COURTHOUSE Gregory Fox, who faces drug charges stemming from a party Danville Police raided in the early morning hours of Feb. 24, had his case bound over to Montour County Court Wednesday by District Justice Robert Geiger. Geiger sent the case to court after hearing testimony from Danville Police Sgt. Rae E. Leighow, who charged Fox, 22, 16 Grand with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Leighow said police found in the room two syringes, a single edge razor blade, a spoon with white crystals and small cotton ball, in addition to marijuana. Leighow said Fox admitted owning the syringes and said they were from "when he used to do dope." But the officer added Fox said he only uses the syringes to blow up worms for fishing and offered to allow Leighow to check his body for needle marks. Also arrested in the raid was Michael Johnston, 21, also of that address. He faces weapons charges in the incident. Arrow center to close ELYSBURG Twenty employees of the Arrow Distribution Center here will be out of work in May when the company ceases operations.

Employees were formed of the closing at a meeting Tuesday. A spokesman for Arrow's parent company, Cluett Peabody of New York, said the closing will not have an immediate effect on the company's adjacent manufacturing plant. Cluett Peabody was forced to decide whether to relocate or close the center after the building which houses the center was sold to Paper Magic Group, Inc. of Scranton, a greeting card and paper product manufacturer that began operations here Tuesday. Adoption fees set COURTHOUSE Fees were set by the Montour County commissioners yesterday for Montour County's Children and Youth Services Agency adoption services.

Montour County commissioners yesterday set up a fee schedule "for individuals to be adopted by the agency," said Commissioner Tom Herman. For Montour County residents wishing to adopt children who are given up by, for example, unwed mothers, the fee would be $150, with an "adoption home study" costing $50. For out-of-county residents, the charges would be doubled. The fees would be waived when a foster parent adopts a foster child already in his or her care, said Herman. The commissioner added the fees are low when compared to what other counties charge.

A caseworker was hired last year, freeing up foster care coordinator Millie James to double as the adoption coordinator, said Peter Heath, director of the Department of Human Services. The state mandates that children and youth services agencies either offer an adoption service or refer their clients to a private agency, said Heath. Chemicals spill on 1-80 TURBOT TWP. A tractor-trailer carrying flammable chemicals crashed early this morning near the Milton exit of Interstate 80, causing the chemicals to spill onto the road and closing one lane of traffic. State police at Milton said the accident occurred when trucker Roger Chapin, Conneaut, Ohio, apparently fell asleep at the wheel about 6:15 a.m.

His eastbound tractor-trailer went off the berm and into the medial, then ran up an embankment before crossing both westbound lanes. The rig contained eight metal hoppers of calcium carbide, which leaked onto the road. A police dispatcher said the chemical is only flammable if it comes into contact with water or moisture. A cleanup crew from Mitchell Transport of Ohio, which owns the tractor-trailer, was dispatched to the scene. The crew wasn't expected to arrive until 4 p.m.

and one westbound lane of the interstate will remain closed until the chemical is cleared away, according to police. Chapin was taken to Geisinger Medical Center, but a report on his condition was unavailable. Station owner sentenced LEWISBURG A Mifflinburg radio station owner convicted of shooting a former employee was handed an sentence in the Union County Jail Thursday. Anthony I. Sylvester, 57, owner and general manager of WWMC-FM.

plans to appeal the sentence handed down by Judge James F. McClure Jr. Meanwhile, Sylvester remains free on $25,000 bail. Sylvester was found guilty in March 1983 of a misdemeanor, recklessly endangering another person, in connection with the September 1982 shooting of John J. Raimo, 41, Mifflinburg.

The jury found the station owner innocent of criminal attempt to commit murder and two conts of aggravated assault, stipulating the defendant was acting in self-defense. Raimo was hospitalized for eight days following the shooting. Knoebel's moves coaster ride ELYSBURG "'The Phoenix" roller coaster ride at Knoebel's Amusement Resort won't be reconstructed on the site originally planned, the park's owners have decided. Dick Knoebel, park co-manager, said the ride, which is being shipped by truck and rail from San Antonio, Texas, will be located at the west end of the park closer to other rides, rather than in a field bordering the east side. Four shipments have arrived so far, with one including the passenger cars.

Kneebel said the train of cars has been sent to its original builder, The Philadelphia Toboggan for repairs. The ride consists of a double figure eight and a 78- foot drop and takes about two minutes from start to finish. Knoebel's hopes to have the ride operating in early June. MARCH 21, 1985 Firm pays for bond loss MAHONING TWP. The loss of two $5,000 Geisinger Medical Center Authority bonds by Merrill, Lynch, Pierce, Fenner Smith won't affect the authority, which issued the bonds to help finance the medical center's expansion project.

Authority solicitor Richard C. Brittain said Merrill Lynch will pay the $2,400 cost reprinting and reissuing the bonds and is liable loft the bonds if they were stolen and cashed in. Brittain told the authority of the loss at a meeting Tuesday. Brittain said the bonds could have been in any of the brokerage firm's nationwide offices before they disappeared. The bonds are sold to the general public.

In a separate matter, the authority asked the Montour County commissioners to reappoint three authority members to five-year terms. The term of John Bausch Jr. expires over a year ago, while those of Richard Greenly and James Connolley ended in January. Members are permitted to serve until the commissioners act.
